The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations wants to see a review done of Indian and Child Family Services agencies in the province.

Delegates at the federation’s winter assembly on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation this week were told that the FSIN believes a review could help in the negotiation of an off-reserve First Nations child welfare framework.

Arthur Anderson is a First Nations war veteran whose grandson became an orphan two years ago.

The boy now lives with five other Aboriginal children in a home near Lumsden.

Anderson says too many children are growing up without ties to their culture, and he sees that when he goes to visit the boy.

He also feels First Nations children are considered a “resource” by some in the social services system.
