News Reporter/Legislative Correspondent (Regina, SK)

MBC Network Radio reaches almost everywhere in Saskatchewan and we are looking for our next radio and online news reporter/legislative correspondent. This is a full time position with benefits (100% company-paid).  MBC is Saskatchewan’s Indigenous FM radio network and you can hear us in 65 communities, including Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, North Battleford, Yorkton and Meadow Lake. MBC News is also online, all the time, at Regina is Saskatchewan’s capital city and the second largest in the province. We need someone versatile, professional and with great news sense.


Working independently from an office located at the Press Gallery of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, the Regina news reporter would be required to:

  • Provide broadcast-ready/online formatted written story submissions with audio clip segments.
  • Cover local and Indigenous news (and occasionally sporting) events with reporting on the scene or live as needed.
  • Ensure stories are factual, current and aired quickly and accurately.
  • Inform MBC’s News Director of any major breaking story.
  • Generate interesting story ideas and bring new story ideas to the table daily.
  • Develop news (and occasionally sports) stories as assigned.
  • Conduct and edit audio news (and occasionally sports) interviews/segments, write scripts and present the finished product in a timely and professional manner.
  • Attend and participate in relevant media scrums, budget delivery and special events at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building and cover assigned proceedings at area courthouses as required.
  • Develop stories, investigating and researching a broad range of issues.
  • Be available for any major event at any time as determined by the News Director.
  • Prepare all submissions according to station format, style, content and philosophy.
  • Be able to update MBC News online web and social media feeds with the latest stories as they develop.


  • Applicants must be professionally-trained in radio broadcasting and preferably possess at least two years of radio newsroom or related experience or hold a degree in journalism.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication and organization skills, including excellent knowledge of social media.
  • A strong sense of community news and local involvement.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent technical proficiency with audio gathering and clip preparation/editing capability with capacity to troubleshoot minor computer difficulties.
  • Must be a self-motivated, detail-oriented, energetic self-starter who can take direction.
  • Understanding of Indigenous culture and issues relevant to First Nations and Métis Peoples is an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of local, regional and national news.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide reliable transportation for accessing newsmakers and attending required events.
