The premier’s bus tour of the North got underway this morning in Meadow Lake.

Lorne Calvert and his entourage began the day by chatting with locals over breakfast at a diner in Meadow Lake.

He then made his way over to Green Lake, where he spent the rest of the morning visiting with residents while touring a pre-school facility.

This afternoon, he met with Canoe Lake residents in the community’s school gym, before finishing off the day in Ile-a-la-Crosse at the village office.

Calvert says the top issue on the minds of Green Lake residents was the long-awaited re-opening of their local sawmill. He says northern MLAs on his cabinet are doing what they can to assist in the process.

Calvert goes on a tour like this every year with several of his cabinet ministers to talk first-hand with Saskatchewan residents and community leaders.

However, this is the first time his bus tour has headed north.

Colleagues joining the premier on this leg of the tour include cabinet ministers Buckley Belanger, Maynard Sonntag, Joanne Crofford and Deb Higgins, in addition to MLAs Lon Borgeson and Warren McCall.

By the end of next week, Calvert will have visited 23 northern communities.
