A Calgary man is facing drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop near the northern village of Pinehouse.

RCMP say a vehicle was pulled over this past Saturday afternoon outside the community at the junction of Key Lake Mine and Highway 914.

Officers say they observed drug paraphernalia in plain sight of the vehicle.

According to the RCMP, a search of the vehicle then resulted in the location of small bags of Cocaine within the vehicle’s gearshift console. Cash and a stolen Alberta license plate were also recovered from the vehicle.

As a result, Firomsa Yousuf, of Calgary is facing a drug trafficking charge and possession of stolen property.

“Because of this police officer’s keen attention to detail, we were able to keep drugs off the streets of our community,” said Sgt. Daniel Lozinski, Pinehouse RCMP’s Detachment Commander in a media release. “We are committed to keeping our community safe – it’s this kind of vigilance that helps us do that.”

Yousuf will be back in Pinehouse for a court date on January 12, 2022.
