It is believed the chief of the Big River First Nation lost his house over the weekend as the result of arson.

An RCMP press release says they received a report of a house fire on the reserve around 10 p.m. Saturday and when they arrived the residence was engulfed in flames.

Mounties say they are investigating the blaze as “suspicious.”

A Facebook post by Big River Councillor Sylvia McAdam says Chief Jack Rayne and family lost everything in the fire.

A GoFundMe page has been started for the family with a little over $4,500 raised as of early Tuesday afternoon.
