Last Friday, the La Ronge Ice Wolves selected forward Mason Bueckert first overall at the 2019 SJHL Bantam Draft in Nipawin.

Bueckert is a Saskatoon, SK product and says he was in class when he heard the news.

“I was actually at school, I was in math (class) and my dad texted me a picture off of the Twitter page,” said Bueckert. “I was really excited, I was not expecting that and it was just awesome to be picked first overall in any draft.”

Bueckert recorded 61 points in 31 games with the Saskatoon Generals Bantam AA team last season. He describes himself as a player who can play both ends of the ice.

“I’m really good in the defensive zone and I can score,” said Bueckert. “I’m good in the offensive zone, I’m kind of like a two-way player.”

Meantime, the Ice Wolves picked four other players at this year’s bantam draft.
