It was a big weekend for La Ronge hockey player Brandt Fiske.

The 17-year-old forward suited up for the La Ronge Ice Wolves Saturday in Melville when they took on the Millionaires. Fiske, who plays for the Yorkton Maulers Midget AAA team, recorded his first SJHL point in his third game as an affiliated player with the Ice Wolves this season.

“I’m an aggressive kid, skate fast, think later kind of guy,” said Fiske when describing the type of player he is. “I like to get into the grinding areas and do my part in the corners.”

“I thought he (Brandt Fiske) was pretty good, he’s a feisty little player,” said Ice Wolves Assistant Coach Gaelan Patterson on the play of Fiske Saturday. “Obviously, adds a little bit of a different element.”

In 26 games with Yorkton this season, Fiske has tallied six points and 77 penalty minutes. He’s the younger brother of former La Ronge captain Bryce Fiske.

“It was good to learn a few things from him (Bryce),” said Fiske. “Obviously, it’s a big name to live up to, but I’m trying to do my part in starting that.”

Fiske is one of four La Ronge products playing in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League this season. Cobe Delaney, Chase Vancoughnett-Lafleur and Parker Layton play for the Beardy’s Blackhawks.

Meantime, Dylan Thackeray of the La Ronge Ice Wolves was the runner-up for the SJHL Defenceman of the Week award. In three games last week, the White City product had three points.

The Ice Wolves are back in action on Thursday when they entertain the Notre Dame Hounds at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
