The Cumberland House Islanders have advanced to provincials after coming out on top in the Northern Saskatchewan League.

The Creighton Kodiaks fell to the Islanders in a stormy championship game in Prince Albert on Saturday afternoon. Despite being down 18-0 at halftime, the Islanders were able to claw back to a 32-24 victory.

“It was a very close, hard-fought game, the Creighton Kodiaks are an awesome team,” said Brent Tunstall, coach of the Islanders. “Our offence stepped up in the second half, and we scored some touchdowns.”

“They just did their game at first,” said Jennifer Tunstall, manager of the Islanders. “Our team came out in the second half like we usually do. Offence, defence — both ways, and they fought for it.”

The Islanders have gone undefeated in their season and will try to keep that momentum going as they host their first provincial game next Saturday.
