A Grandmother’s Bay woman has received a penitentiary sentence for manslaughter.

Josephine Roberts had previously entered a guilty plea for killing Candace Roberts in October of last year, after being initially charged with second-degree murder.

The RCMP did not release the victim’s name when charge was laid, but MBC has confirmed her identity as Candace Roberts, who was also known as Arlene.

Police found her dead around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 after receiving a call for an assault in a home on the reserve.

Josephine was arrested after Mounties started investigating, and has been in custody since then.

On Monday afternoon, a La Ronge judge sentenced her to five years with credit for time served.

In total, Josephine has three years and 318 days left to serve. She has also received a 10 year firearms ban.
