An outreach program in Saskatoon that aims to bring math and science education to the city’s community schools has received renewed funding.

The Kamskenow program aims to bring University of Saskatchewan-level education into community schools to give students unique learning opportunities.

Last year alone Kamskenow put science outreach instructors into 42 classrooms at 14 schools in the Saskatoon area.

This morning the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada announced renewed funding for the program.

The goal of Kamskenow is to get more Aboriginal children interested in math and science.

According to the University’s outreach team 69 per cent of students who participated in the program say they are likely to choose a career that involves math or science.

With the renewed funding organizers say they hope to grow the program further in the following years.
