Last year, a trip to Disneyland was a high point for a woman who had endured a cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment, all while pregnant.

Wolseley woman Christina Bieber is a mother of four who was granted one of the 10 Touchdown for Dreams wishes in 2015.

The Cameco and Roughrider partnership with the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency launched its calls for applications on Thursday.

At the launch, Bieber said it was especially difficult to receive her breast cancer diagnosis because she was 14 weeks pregnant at the time.

“I think I was more worried for my child than I was for myself so to push through that was hard,” she said.

Her focus was on her children throughout her diagnosis, four rounds of chemo, surgery followed four more rounds of chemo, and 16 radiation treatments.

By May of last year, she was out of the woods and had a baby boy.

On top of that, her family was able to go to Disneyland through the Touchdown for Dreams program.

“I remember the very first ride I was on was the carousel, watching the kids, I turned around and looked at them and I just started crying. It was just the emotions, it was a happy cry. Just amazing. And everything we got to do and see, it almost seemed surreal,” Bieber said.

“I never thought about cancer the whole time I was there.”

Bieber encourages Saskatchewan women with life-threatening cancer to apply to have their dream come true.

“The people that you meet, the amazing women, I have such a good connection with them now. Being able to share my story with them and theirs with me, we get to share information with each other whish is awesome. So the connection and the friendships that I’ve made out of it is awesome,” she said.

“To be able to have a dream come true – any dream that you want – like, I’m so thankful for it. And to be able to spend that time with my family and friends and make long-lasting memories, it’s just,” she said, trailing off as she struggled to describe that feeling.

This year, the Touchdown for Creams program will grant seven to 10 wishes.

In 2015 they received a record-breaking 45 applications.
