A number of people are in custody being questioned in connection with Regina’s 8th murder of the year, but no one has been charged.

Police were called to the 700 block of Athol Street in North Central Regina at about 3:00 A.M. this morning.

Regina police spokesperson,  Elizabeth Popowich,  says there was a report of two women fighting in the street.

“The caller reported two females fighting in the street.  When police and EMS arrived they located a female victim.  EMS initially performed emergency medical treatment on scene and transported the victim to hospital.”

The  24 year old woman  was pronounced dead a short time later.

Anthony Shellavello lives a few doors down from the murder scene.

He has lived there for 30 years.

He says for the most part it’s been quite safe,  but not this year.

“Kind of surprising today.  You know like this year.  Three of them in one year and not have anything in 30 years.”

This is Regina’s 8th murder of the year.

Police are also investigating the discovery of the body of a 22 year old woman in a drainage ditch.

Her body was found yesterday.

Police are not saying if they suspect foul play in that death.
