Concerns over gang activity have prompted calls for a tribal police force on a northern reserve.

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation councilor Art Dorion says something needs to be done to curb violence on his reserve.

According to Dorion, there is a lot of bootlegging and gang activity going on at Pelican Narrows.

He says the community has its own RCMP detachment.

But he feels the Mounties would benefit if a tribal police force was created that could work with them.

Dorion adds a tribal force started up a few years ago, but has since faded away.
