Can’t Locate Lost Person Through Phone: SaskTel

SaskTel is advising cell-phone users that the company can’t automatically locate the phones should the user become lost somewhere.

The message comes nearly 5 months after a Big River band member died in the wilderness.

Kerri Canepotatoe walked sixty kilometres for help after a car carrying her and three other people got stuck on a mud road.

The group made three phone calls to 9-1-1 for help but no officers were dispatched to the scene.

Spokeswoman Michelle Englot says they need the user to stay on the phone and explain where they are.

Meantime, the RCMP are still investigating the incident at Big River, trying to figure out why the group’s calls to 9-1-1 weren’t successful.
