A rally took place on Parliament HIll this morning to mark the conclusion of a 5,000-kilometre walk to draw attention to missing and murdered Aboriginal women.

The Walk 4 Justice began on June 21st in Vancouver.

The walkers have presented a petition of almost 3,000 signatures to Parliament calling for greater attention in dealing with these cases.

The Native Women’s Association of Canada is hoping that because the walk is concluding during an election campaign, candidates and political parties will openly talk about the issue.

Association president Beverley Jacobs isn’t sure what kind of response the walk will generate in the election campaign.

Jacobs also doesn’t think the issue of missing and murdered Aboriginal women has captured enough of the public’s attention — and she says the media is partly to blame.
