Uranium Companies May See Tax Breaks

Industry Minister Eric Cline says he’s open to the idea of offering tax breaks on capital investment for uranium companies.

The suggestion came earlier this week from Cameco CEO Jerry Grandey during the Centennial Summit in Saskatoon.

Grandey argued that Saskatchewan’s status as a world leader in uranium exports could be challenged if the provincial government doesn’t make the province more business-friendly to mining and exploration companies.

Cline says he’ll consider giving tax incentives to those companies, but says the province will expect higher job numbers in return.

Even though Saskatchewan’s uranium industry is experiencing a boom right now, Cline says this is no time for the province to sit on its laurels.
