Unrest at Two Northern Band Offices

Protests are taking place at two different band offices in northwest Saskatchewan.

Yesterday, over a dozen Island Lake band members shut down their band’s headquarters, demanding that the chief and council release the First Nation’s financial information.

Their supporters occupied the band office overnight.

That demonstration continues today.

And earlier today, roughly 20 band members of the Birch Narrows Dene Nation closed down their band office.

They want to get a good look at the band’s financial situation and are calling for a general band meeting.
