Uncertain Future For Men’s Shelter

Officials at the Prince Albert men’s shelter are doing their best to keep the lights on in the building.

The shelter is short $25,000 and could close if new funds aren’t found.

The director at the facility, Pastor Andrew Bear, is meeting with the mayor of Prince Albert later this afternoon to explore possible options.

Bear says over 150 men have used the shelter since it opened and the need is great.

He says its clientele include the homeless and people released from penal facilities.

Bear says he’s “very sure” a lot of the former inmates will be a high-risk to re-offend if they don’t have a place to stay.

He hopes to establish government core funding at a later date.
