Threatening Package Delivered To Seabee Gold Mine

The president of Claude Resources says it appears the anthrax scare at the Seabee gold mine north of La Ronge was a hoax.

Neil McMillan says he hasn’t seen the note that accompanied a box of screws containing an unknown substance — but adds he’s been told the note said the substance was anthrax.

An RCMP team trained in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear substances has since determined it wasn’t anthrax or any other dangerous substance.

The package was received yesterday.

McMillan says 10 employees believed to have had contact with the package were checked out at the La Ronge health centre as a precaution, but returned to work soon after.

McMillan says his staff and the RCMP handled the incident well — and doesn’t see how his company could have prevented this episode.

He also doesn’t believe it has anything to do with the death of a mine worker last year.

The RCMP are working to track down who sent the package.
