Students in La Ronge and Buffalo Narrows are among the latest to join a nation-wide cleanup of the country’s lake and river shorelines.

Initially set up in Vancouver, the event has been growing over the past few years and finds participants as far north as Nunavut.

Linda Pederson is a teacher at Twin Lakes Community School in Buffalo Narrows, one of the organizations participating in this week’s campaign.

She says approximately 25 kids in Grades 5 and 10 will spend Friday afternoon combing the shoreline of Churchill Lake for garbage.

Pederson feels her kids will benefit from seeing the effects of waste firsthand.

She adds the day will be recognized as class time for the Grade 10 students and will also see them collecting water insects for study.
