The Canadian Red Cross is searching for new recruits in northern Saskatchewan.

Erin McLeod is the Disaster Services Coordinator with the Red Cross in Prince Albert.

McLeod says the agency is currently trying to recruit 48 new volunteers to act as first responders.

She notes Red Cross volunteers not only respond to large-scale disasters like the forest fire evacuations in northern Saskatchewan this summer, but also smaller crises like house fires.

McLeod says the volunteers will be trained in different aspects of the job, but will also be asked to make a two-year commitment.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer is urged to contact the Prince Albert Red Cross office at 765-2600.
