The RCMP has appointed a senior investigator to look into allegations made by one of a former priest’s sexual abuse victims in Dillon.

The victim, who can’t be identified under a court-imposed publication ban, has filed a complaint with the RCMP’s Public Complaints Commission.

She says her initial complaints regarding the former priest weren’t taken seriously by RCMP officers stationed in Buffalo Narrows in the mid-1990s.

She says things started to get rolling on the investigation into Norbert Dufault’s activities only after an Aboriginal RCMP officer heard her complaint a couple of years later.

Dufault is serving a two-year sentence in a federal penitentiary after pleading guilty to several charges of indecent assault dating back to the 1950s and ’60s.
