The FSIN is praising the provincial government for sending a cabinet minister to attend this week’s North American Indigenous Games.

First Nations and Metis Relations Minister June Draude has been in Cowichan, B-C since the opening ceremonies, and plans to remain there until the closing ceremonies.

It’s believed to be the first time the Saskatchewan government has had a representative present at this event from start to finish.

FSIN Vice-Chief Lyle Whitefish says it means a lot to Saskatchewan’s young Aboriginal athletes to have the provincial government part of their cheering section.

Whitefish says Draude is considered a part of the team now — and he says the government’s support has been both “tremendous” and “overwhelming”.
