The provincial government is making plans to build new court houses in La Ronge and Meadow Lake.

Saskatchewan Justice says detailed planning and design for the construction of new court buildings in those communities will begin immediately. The planning process alone will cost $1.5 million.

Decisions on the next phase of those projects will be made once the detailed planning has been completed.

The news is part of a $7-million plan by the province to upgrade court facilities across Saskatchewan.

Lloydminister is also getting a new court house, while courts in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Regina, Yorkton and Melfort will all be getting facelifts — including a number of security upgrades.

The government says it wants to help ensure safety and security for the public and court staff.
