The Cree language is now available on the Internet.

An Alberta-based educational body has launched a website devoted to the language at www.creedictionary.com.

The site allows users to translate words from English to Cree in syllabics and the alphabet.

In addition, some of the works are linked to pictures and sounds.

A spokeswoman for the site, Loretta Pete-Lambert, says she hopes new technology will help preserve this ancient language.

The First Nations University of Canada recently announced it wants to help develop the site for the benefit of its students.
