Northern School Division Bans 15-Seat Vans

A school division based in Meadow Lake has decided to go without the 15-passenger vans at the centre of a fatal accident in New Brunswick that killed seven school students.

Northwest School Division director of education Glen Winkler says the ban won’t go into effect in August, and might not affect the use of the van within town limits.

Winkler notes the board had concerns with the safety of these vehicles, and that’s why it made the call to remove them.

He says only three of the school division’s 24 schools currently use these vans.

Winkler adds the board also looked at how school divisions across the province were dealing with this issue before making this decision.
