The mayor of Cumberland House is calling on the provincial government to cut back on red tape when it comes to the area of housing.

Dale McAuley says there are too many policies and bylaws for communities to wade through when it comes to seeing new homes built.

McAuley is just one of about a hundred northerners who have descended on Prince Albert for a conference on housing this week.

He says he appreciate the many presentations being put on by Sask Housing at the housing forum, but thinks more might be accomplished by simplifying the system.

The concept of home ownership is the main theme being touched on at the conference.

Officials with Sask Housing say approximately 200 families have benefited from their remote housing program since its launch five years ago.
