Sources say the woman shot in the face in northern Saskatchewan this past weekend managed to call for help on her cellphone after being abandoned in a remote cabin.

The 37-year-old victim was shot at a location near St. George’s Hill early Saturday morning.

She was eventually taken to Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital for surgery.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Gerald Montgrand has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance tomorrow.

Both the suspect and the victim are said to be residents of St. George’s Hill.
