Northern Loggers Hoping for Change in Government

A self-employed forestry worker from La Ronge is challenging the next provincial government to create more work for independent loggers.

Tom Sanderson is the president of the province’s Independent Loggers Association.

He says an increase in stumpage fees and a reforestation fee on burnt timber have put hundreds of his members out of work.

Sanderson says he blames the NDP government for the decline in jobs and is hoping a change on election day will result in more work for him and his membership.

Sanderson says he’s hoping to hold a meeting with all of Saskatchewan’s independent forestry workers as soon as the provincial election is over and is anxious to meet with government officials.
