Researchers from Dalhousie University are in La Ronge today.

The three graduate students are gathering information from the band in relation to a two-year project on community planning.

Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says the initiative is the brainchild of Indian Affairs and Health Canada.

She says the researchers will work with the band to identify different ways the community can address challenges facing them.

Cook-Searson says workshops will take place on the band’s individual reserves throughout the week, and all community members are invited to attend.

The first meeting was held at the La Ronge council chambers today over the noon hour.

The researchers are in Stanley Mission tomorrow, Sucker River on Wednesday, Grandmother’s Bay on Thursday, Hall Lake on Friday and Little Red River on Saturday.
