Northeast Businesses Abiding By Smoking Bylaw

An official at the Mamawetan-Churchill River Regional Health Authority says, to the best of her knowledge, no businesses in the region have been violating the no-smoking bylaw.

Theresa Heinrichs says the health authority has not issued any smoking tickets yet and non-compliance is not an issue.

However, she says inspectors are out there, mainly to answer questions and help businesses understand the guidelines.

The bylaw came into effect at the start of the year amid a cloud of ambiguity.

Some businesses in the province have been openly defying the order and tickets have been issued to a few of them.

A Prince Albert hotel was the latest to be fined.
