A new website has been launched designed to teach Metis kids about their heritage.

It can be found at www.awchimo.net and features games, photographs, audio samples of Michif words and other cultural information.

The Central Urban Metis Federation launched the site.

Vice-president Shirley Isbister hopes kids using it become more comfortable with who they are in society, noting that many Metis youth are hanging their heads instead of walking with their heads held high.

She says the site is still in its infancy and visitors can expect to see more work done to it in the months to come.

Money for the site’s launch came largely from Heritage Canada.
