A two-day Aboriginal cultural event gets started today at SIAST’s Woodland Campus in Prince Albert.

Every year, students and staff participate in workshops and traditional recreational activities designed to increase Aboriginal awareness.

Today’s activities include a tipi raising ceremony, a pipe ceremony and an Aboriginal stick ball tournament.

Tomorrow, University of Saskatchewan history professor Jim Miller will deliver a keynote address about the history of the treaty-making relationship in this province.

As well, RCMP constable Merv Morin will speak about being an Aboriginal role model.

Tomorrow’s workshops include a couple of sessions on cultural healing.
