A number of Metis war veterans were among the Saskatchewan citizens presented with the province’s Centennial Medal in Saskatoon today.

Many of the Metis vets honoured today are from northern Saskatchewan, and include Alex Maurice, Claude Petit and Charlie Fosseneuve.

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock made the presentations during a ceremony held at the Delta Bessborough.

The commemorative medal recognizes and honours the important role individuals have played in the development of communities in the province.

Recipients are selected based on the recommendation of MLAs, government organizations and non-government organizations.

About four-thousand Saskatchewan citizens will receive the medals this year.
