Former northern Saskatchewan MP Gary Merasty has accepted a new position with Cameco at its corporate office in Saskatoon.

Merasty is now Cameco’s vice-president of corporate social responsibility.

His new duties will include providing oversight on socio-economic considerations and community relations related to project environmental assessments — with a focus in Aboriginal relations.

Merasty announced his resignation from federal politics in early July, but it only became official this past weekend.

Elections Canada is indicating it could be six months before a byelection is held to find a new MP in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.
