Medicine Chest Gathering Nearing Conclusion

Today is the final day of the Medicine Chest gathering at the Thunderchild First Nation.

The goal of the three-day gathering is to set up a task force to implement a traditional Aboriginal health care system.

That’s because speakers at the conference say the mainstream health care system isn’t working for them.

When asked if a mixture of traditional Aboriginal and non-Native health care systems could work, Thunderchild Chief Dale Awasis says they can’t — but adds they could co-exist in the same environment.

He says that is the ultimate goal of the discussion conference delegates are having this week.

Organizers plan to hold a signing ceremony later today to get the task force underway.
