The Assembly of First Nations says it doesn’t know what to believe concerning allegations of misused residential school trust money.
The Liberals have been attacking the Tories in recent days over media reports that the Conservative government has re-directed some of the trust money into other areas.
The Office of Indian Residential Schools Resolution Canada has issued a statement saying those reports are not true.
AFN lawyer Ken Young says if this has been taking place, the government has broken a trust with Aboriginal people.
Young is also dismissing speculation from the Liberals that this might be contributing to the length of time it’s taking for compensation cheques to be processed.
He says the government simply doesn’t have the capacity to deal with the flood of claims.
