Laliberte Wins School Board Seat After Vote Review

It turns out former MP Rick Laliberte has won himself a seat on the Northern Lights School Division board, after all.

Spokesman Bob Wyatt says Darcy Roy was initially declared the winner of the Beauval seat last week — but that was before someone noticed an error in the way a poll result was recorded.

The latest vote tally has Laliberte finishing with 91 votes, compared to Roy’s 89 votes.

Wyatt says he accepts responsibility for the error, and adds both men were informed of the news yesterday.

Laliberte is scheduled to be sworn in with the rest of the new board this Friday.

He made headlines earlier this month after making an unsuccessful bid for the mayor’s seat in Beauval.

Laliberte previously served on the Northern Lights board in the early to mid-1990s, prior to being elected to Parliament.
