Pre-Cam Community School in La Ronge is preparing to receive a helping hand from the federal government.

The elementary school has been awarded $106,000 in federal funding for a drug awareness and prevention project.

An official at Pre-Cam says the money will be used to create activities that keep kids focused on the positive things in life, while curbing drug use.

Tanya Philips adds the school is also looking at creating a safe place kids can use to ask questions about drugs.

The project is one of several initiatives being supported across Canada through the Drug Strategy and Community Initiatives Fund.

Desnethe-Missinipi-Churchill River MP Rob Clarke says he has seen the consequences drugs have on northern communities, and is pleased the funding is coming to his riding.
