The new electoral officer for the Lac La Ronge Indian Band feels he has the necessary experience to run a smooth election.

Charles Whitecap will be in charge when members of Saskatchewan’s largest First Nation vote in six different communties on March 31st.

The results of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s last election were disputed on several levels, including the posting of voters’ lists.

Whitecap says he’s already talked to his deputy returning officers about some of the things that went wrong the last time, and promises to thoroughly train his deputies early next month.

Whitecap left his position with the Prince Albert Grand Council to run the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s election.

He has run at least 15 elections at the band and tribal council level.

Whitecap has also helped develop election acts for a number of First Nations.
