A northern Saskatchewan leader has officially announced her intention to seek re-election in the fall.

La Loche Mayor Georgina Jolibois says she has every intention of running for a second term during the next municipal election in October.

Jolibois says she has accomplished many initiatives during her time as mayor, including securing funding for the long-awaited road link to Fort McMurray.

She says because of the work she and the village council put towards that project, La Loche established a great working relationship with the provincial government. She feels the improved ties with the province will benefit the community in the long run.

Jolibois is no stranger to northern politics. Last year, she made a bid for the NDP nomination for the northern Saskatchewan constituency in the federal election. She eventually lost the nomination to Anita Jackson.
