A former band chief and regional director at Indian Affairs has announced he plans to run for the top job at the Prince Albert Grand Council.

Roy Bird will compete for the post currently held by Ron Michel in an election on October 21st.

Since 1997, Bird has been with INAC as a director and as a special advisor to the deputy minister.

He believes his experience on the job will help him understand how to wade through government red tape and bring meaningful change at the reserve level.

While Bird commends the current leaders at the PAGC for their work to date, he says it is time for change.
