Hope For First Nations SchoolNet Program

An official with the Prince Albert Grand Council says it doesn’t look like the government will be cutting off Internet funding for on-reserve schools, after all.

Vince Hill of the PAGC’s virtual high school says he is hearing word the program will be shifted from Industry Canada over to Indian Affairs.

Last fall, news reports suggested the funding for schools would dry up this month.

However, Hill says funding has already been extended to March and he expects a long-term solution to be found in the near future.

He says that’s good, because reserve-schools can’t fund Internet service on their own:

Hill says he’s hoping to hear something official on the subject soon.
