The RCMP say a man believed responsible for a fatal hit-and-run on the White Bear First Nation likely killed himself after the incident.

Two local residents standing behind a parked vehicle on the reserve were struck by another vehicle at around 5:30 Friday afternoon.

A 38-year-old man was killed in the collision, while a 34-year-old woman suffered serious injuries.

The SUV involved in the episode did not remain at the scene, and a search was instigated.

The Mounties discovered the suspect vehicle on the reserve at approximately 8:00 the following morning.

The body of the driver was found a short distance away.
