A national historic site has been renamed to honour a Metis family that once lived there.

The Battle of Fish Creek is now known as The Battle of Tourond’s Coulee: Fish Creek National Historic site.

Brad Trost, MP for Saskatoon-Humboldt, announced the name change and says it reflects history as Metis people who lived there see it.

Trost says the change makes the history behind the battle more inclusive and respectful.

A new plaque will be put up in April reflecting the name change.
