Grandmother’s Bay Endures Prolonged Blackout

Some residents in the Grandmother’s Bay area had to do without power for about 36 hours over the weekend.

SaskPower says the high winds and rain were to blame.

The power went off at around 1:00 Saturday morning.

Some customers saw the lights come back on around 8:00 that evening, but others were forced to wait until well into Sunday.

SaskPower spokesman Larry Christie says crews worked “around-the-clock” removing an estimated 50 fallen trees from power lines in the area.

Christie says the fact that region is served by one line meant power couldn’t be restored until all the branches had been removed.
