This month’s Treaty 10 Centennial Celebrations in northern Saskatchewan have been given a financial boost from the province.

Northern MLAs Joan Beatty and Buckley Belanger presented a $70,000 cheque to MLTC Tribal Chief Helen Ben at a ceremony in Meadow Lake yesterday.

Beatty says the funding is another way the Saskatchewan government has chosen to recognize the importance of treaties in province’s history.

The funds will be used for researching and producing a Treaty 10 book, hosting a youth canoe trip, teaching youth about Treaty 10 and re-tracing the historical route and signing of the treaty.

The treaty signing will be commemorated with activities in Patuanak, Turnor Lake, Canoe Lake, and Dillon. The August 28th anniversary celebration in English River will be held in conjunction with the National Denesuline Gathering.
