Future of Seebee Gold Mine Looking Bright

Claude Resources is becoming increasingly optimistic it will soon be able to double its output at the Seebee gold mine northeast of La Ronge.

The company announced yesterday that samples taken from a nearby ore deposit at Porky Lake continue to look promising.

President Neil McMillan says its possible that the new ore body could help double production at the Seebee mill within the next 2 years.

McMillan says if that happens, it will likely mean the creation of an additional 40 jobs.

The entire operation already employs about 175 workers — 35 per cent of them are northerners.

McMillan says while the company would like to get that percentage higher, it’s unlikely, given the difficulty of the work and the training that’s required.

The Seebee mine has been in operation for 12 years.

McMillan says the ore body currently being mined should provide at least another 10 years of production.
