Three young heroes from the Meadow Lake area are among the people who will be honoured this evening at the First Nations Circle of Honour Awards in Saskatoon.

Brett Opikokew, Joshua Lasas and Devin Knot saved the lives of a mother and her three young children after their vehicle overturned in a water-filled ditch earlier this year.

The three have already been honoured at the Saskatchewan Legislature, and tonight, they will be presented with the Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans Association Humanity Award.

The FSIN says a person normally must be of First Nations ancestry to receive an award, but they decided to make an exception in the case of Knot, who’s non-Aboriginal.

Meanwhile, Joe Quewezance will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
