Business leaders in Prince Albert heard from a prominent First Nations leader yesterday.

Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Lawrence Joseph talked to the P.A. Chamber of Commerce at length about the challenges and opportunities facing Saskatchewan bands.

One thing the federation leader says he could do a lot less with is rhetoric about how much money Ottawa is spending on Indian bands.

He says he hopes to create a fiscal relations secretariat that could work to counter some of the “myths” being spread.

Joseph says most of the government’s funding gets eaten up along the way by bureaucracy.

He adds the new agency could help level the playing field between bands like the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and other more isolated bands.
